Reflections on International Women’s Day

March 8, 2018

Today marks International Women’s Day around the world, a day to celebrate the many varied achievements of women, but also a day to express our appreciation for women everywhere and the impact they’ve made in government, in the workforce and across society at large.  As women who represent technology companies, an industry often criticized for its lack of female representation, we’ve shared our thoughts on what this day means for the industry and to us as individuals.

“International Women’s Day is a day of reflection – an annual opportunity to look back and see how much women’s rights have progressed. There are so many incredible women that have come before us and laid the foundation for where we are today – from the early suffragettes lobbying for the right to vote and the women who’ve broken gender barriers in the business world, to Susan Fowler taking a stand against the sexual harassment she faced at Uber and the recent #Time’sUp movement. We’ve come a long way, but there is still so much to be done. I feel blessed and grateful for the inspiring women who’ve paved the way thus far, and for all of the amazing and talented women I’ve met throughout my life and been lucky to count as friends, colleagues and role models. I’m also thankful for my mother – for teaching me not only to be fierce, but that kindness also matters – and for instilling in me the belief I could be anything I set my mind to be. I am reminded again today of one of my favorite quotes from Ayn Rand: “The question isn’t who’s going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.” Amen, sisters. There is strength in numbers and each and every one of us is filled with infinite potential. #PressForProgress”
~ Mindy M. Hull, CEO and founder

“International Women’s Day gives us the chance to reflect on our role as women in our careers and in the world at large, and it also reminds us to express gratitude for the pioneers who have come before and to show support for those who will come after. Working in tech has been a great privilege in my career, and I’ve met and worked alongside some of the brightest female minds across a wide variety of disciplines. I’m grateful for those who have modeled strength in career, strength in the home, and strength of character. I hope to do the same for the generations to come after, as we continue to gain momentum for women in technology and around the world.”

“International Women’s Day is a day to celebrate how far we have come in terms of women’s rights, and a reminder for us to look ahead at how we can continue to improve in the future. Whether it’s women’s suffrage, pay equality, or improvements in the developing world, there is still plenty to celebrate. This day reminds me how lucky I am to have so many incredible, strong and smart women in my life, both on a professional and personal level.  In the words of Michelle Obama: “There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish.” Let’s #KeepRising. Let’s #BeBoldForChange. Let’s #PressforProgress.”
– Lizi Jeffery, Senior Account Director

“We are at such a pivotal moment right now for women’s rights. It truly feels like we’ve been handed the baton from those that paved the way before us, and are nearing the finish line in first place. It is so inspiring to see so many females in positions of leadership. And I can’t wait to see what the next generation accomplishes.”
– Colleen Wickwire, Senior PR Consultant

To me, International Women’s Day means celebrating those women who have fought for the right to be equal, the right to vote, and the right to be whatever we please. It also means celebrating women doing incredible things, who have taken advantage of the opportunities we so fortunately have now as a result of the determination and courage of the women who have come before. Because of them I can be whatever I want, and have never felt inadequate in my career so far.”
