Giving Thanks: Reflections from the MGP Team

“What if, today, we were grateful for everything?” ~ Charlie Brown

This Thursday, November 22 marks Thanksgiving Day in the U.S., a day to spend with family and friends (Friendsgiving, anyone?), eat your weight in turkey, sweet potatoes, cranberries, pumpkin pie and more, watch American football – and gear up for serious Black Friday shopping. But, it’s also a day to pause and reflect on the many things in our lives for which we have to be thankful.

As a PR team, we’ve shared our thoughts on what we are most thankful for in our personal and professional lives:

I’m grateful beyond measure that my best friend is also my husband, partner-in-crime and someone who loves and supports me – and can also make me laugh so hard my face hurts. I’m thankful for my family in the Old and New Worlds – for my kind, fun-loving and adventurous step daughters, my sister & brother-in-law, and my late mother-in-law – all of whom have made living abroad in The Netherlands feel like home – as well as my mom who taught me to never give up if I wanted something badly enough. I am grateful for the many lifelong friends whom I don’t see near enough, but know they always have my back – and that we can instantly pick up where we last left off when we talk, like no time has passed. I am grateful for all the laughter and the bruises – and all the things that make me human. They’ve taught me valuable life lessons in their own unique way. I am also grateful for kindness, the tender mercies that seem all too rare in today’s world. Lastly, for the feeling I get when I gaze at the stars, look at a sunset or drift over billowy clouds at 38K feet and still feel my dad and late brother near me. Professionally, I’m thankful to get to do what I love every day, working with terrific colleagues from whom I learn new things every, single day – and working with amazing clients who trust us to tell their stories to the world. ~ Mindy M. Hull, CEO and founder

I am thankful for a holiday devoted to gratitude, that allows us a moment in an otherwise busy season to reflect on everything that brings us joy and comfort. I am grateful for the consistent love and support from my family, friends, loved ones and colleagues – and for the unique and inventive ways they show it to me. I am grateful for the ability and privilege to work – for learning new things, for having new experiences, for overcoming challenges and for stretching in ways previously unimagined. I am grateful for my faith, which is the sustaining force that weaves through my life. Finally, I am grateful for the gift of snark – of which I am fluent – to help me tolerate all those things I might otherwise not be so grateful for. – Natalee Gibson, Managing Director

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because it kicks off the most wonderful time of the year. I’m grateful for this season when I’m reminded to take extra notice of the joys and blessings in my life. I’m thankful for my loving family and wonderful friends who make this season magical. I’m indescribably grateful to live in a beautiful, free country with a wealth of opportunities and potential for all. And for those who sacrifice so much to protect our nation. Professionally, I’m grateful to work with a great team in an ever-evolving industry that allows me to hone my writing and PR skills. ~ Tara Hill, Account Executive

I am so lucky to be surrounded by the unique, wonderful, and weird people in my life, who each have contributed to the person I am today, and who I will continue to learn from with every new situation that arises. My Mum, for positivity and openness. My Dad, for determination and work ethic. My Grandmother, for kindness and warmth. My partner, for love and ambition. My siblings and my friends, for fun and laughter. My colleagues, for lessons and support, and for being lovely people to work with. My circle is happy, healthy, and a little bit crazy at times.

I am also grateful for the opportunities and experiences I have had in my life so far. I have traveled, tried new things, created a life that suits me, and met some pure and genuine people along the way. – Carla Richardson, Senior Account Executive

I am thankful for two-day shipping. Whether I need socks for the kid or dog food for the dog, two-day shipping allows me to provide for the people (and animals) I love without taking time away from them. It also makes it easy to order secret presents for my husband. With the holiday season coming up, the folks packing, shipping and driving all that stuff to my house are the real MVPs. – Kayla Bortak, Senior Account Manager

There are many things in life that I am grateful for. I am lucky to have great family and friends that are loving and kind. I am thankful for their support. I am thankful for the life I have and all the simple comforts it includes. ~ Hannah Martin, Account Coordinator

I’m thankful for my friends, old and new that have become family to me. I am also thankful to have the opportunity to travel and see the world and see how people everywhere are celebrating a time to be thankful for their life! It’s beautiful and I don’t take it for granted. – Antonio Hicks, Account Director

This year I am thankful for my 10-month old puppy who nearly died with Parvo when I first got her. She makes me smile everyday and has shown me that the best things in life are the simplest things; family, a chew toy, evening walks, swimming at the beach, and even a tummy rub. – Erin Lumley, Senior PR Consultant

Thankful for the Democratic Party taking control of the House of Representatives! Most of all, I am very thankful for all my close friends and family. – Frances Lee, Chief of Staff
