Time Out for Fun

September 12, 2019

Public relations is a fast-paced world and the work we do can be high-stress at times, which is why recharging our batteries and taking time out for fun is important. Our team is dotted around the US, with just myself based in the UK, so whether it’s escaping from the hustle and bustle of San Francisco for a few days, going for walks, seeing friends, and in my case, packing a bit of adrenaline into my weekend, here are some of the things we like to get up to for fun.

Mindy: My go-to’s for fun primarily involve travel, listening to live music and/or wine – or a combination of all three! Some of my favorite weekend trips include a drive up the coast to Hog Island Oyster Farm, Lake Tahoe, a day trip to Stinson Beach, an overnight stay at Cavallo Point in Sausalito, wine country weekends to fave spots in Healdsburg, Sonoma, Napa, St. Helena or Calistoga or drive down Highway 1 to explore Big Sur. Taking a walk in my neighborhood along Chrissy Field and seeing the majesty of the Golden Gate Bridge bathed in golden rays in the late afternoon is also one of my happy places.

Natalee: Work life is pretty non-stop, so fun for me is anything that takes me away and puts me in an entirely different mindset. I love to travel – even short weekend trips – and find that I can easily leave my worries and to-do list right at my front door, to pick up when I return again. I also love time with my family and good friends – anything from working out together, sharing a meal, playing a game or just hanging out. If all else fails, a little retail therapy is always a good way to channel the fun!

Allie: I like to take a workout class (the sweatier the better!) or jog in the SoCal sunshine to clear my head. On the weekends I love to be outside with my family, either at the coast, exploring a new (to us) beach town, farmer’s market or brewery. And in the winter you’ll find me in Tahoe on the slopes any chance I can get! I don’t get a ton of downtime with two little ones, but when I can grab a few minutes of “me” time, a glass of wine and a good book equals perfection.

Kayla: My idea of fun is going anywhere we can go for a leisurely walk, usually outside but not “outdoors.” I’m not talking hiking or walking on the beach, but more often events. My husband and I love to grab a coffee and window shop or people watch. On a free weekend, I’ll be looking for art festivals, food festivals, botanical gardens or even a farmers’ market. Any of these and more are a good time!

Carla: As I work from home and am on an entirely different time zone to my team, I spend a lot of time on my own, which is not something I am used to, having grown up with five siblings. So I like to be out and about at weekends, seeing friends and family, going to events, or just cruising around with my partner on his motorbike – weather permitting. The child in me also loves a day out at a theme park! I am not someone who likes to sit still, so things like a relaxing spa day or a trip to the cinema are my idea of hell, much to my partner’s disappointment. If I do find that there is little going on, then I love to paint. I don’t get to do it very often but when I do, it takes my mind off of everything else.

Jenn: I live for the weekends. It is the one time my whole family seems to have time together and our schedules coincide. As a nature lover, getting outdoors is a top priority. Hiking, biking along the river, or simply heading to the mountains is on the top of my list for fun and relaxation. It doesn’t matter where you live, soaking up some fresh air and vitamin D can be a much-needed respite from the week’s daily grind. During the week, after a long day of work, nothing is better than a glass of wine and binge-watching a couple of shows on Netflix either. I recommend a cozy blanket to go along with it!

Frances:  My fun is playing a round of golf with great company. I love to play new courses, especially strategic golf course design. I find the discovery of something new on the golf course to be fascinating. That is what makes the game fun! But I also like the actual trip to get there.  Whether it is taking a road trip and seeing some new towns or traveling to a new part of the country.

Olivia: Living in San Francisco, there are endless amounts of things to do for fun. However, right now I would have to say that my favorite activity is hiking the Lands End Trail. It is the perfect way to get a good workout in with the view of the Golden Gate Bridge and Pacific coast. I couldn’t ask for a more beautiful and relaxing place to exercise. The hike itself is full of hidden treasures such as the Rock Labyrinth and the Sutro Baths. Every time I hike this trail, it reminds me of all the amazing things this city has to offer.

Everyone’s idea of fun is different, so perhaps use this as some inspiration for your upcoming weekend. Have a good one! And remember to allow yourself some time to relax and recuperate.
