MGP’s Favorite Apps and Hacks for PR Pros

June 20, 2018

Here at MGP we live technology. It’s not just that we represent tech clients across every imaginable vertical around the world, it’s that we also, as individuals, have a huge passion for the modern day conveniences, opportunities and possibilities technology affords. We get excited when we talk to emerging companies trying something new for the first time, and we are fascinated that each day requires new learnings and understanding of deeply technical topics.

We also love all the technology advancements that make our day a little easier to manage. Following, in no particular order, are some of our team’s faves:

What it is: A cloud-based set of proprietary team collaboration tools and services.

How we use it: We use Slack to minimize emails, talk in real-time within our team and directly with our clients. We love that Slack allows you to be more conversational and fun than email. What’s more, it helps us feel connected even when we’re remote. It’s our ‘digital water cooler’ and keeps the conversation flowing no matter where we are in the world.

What it is: A convenient way to pre-pay, order ahead and skip the queue!

How we use it: To survive. Seriously, we just really need our caffeine.

What it is: A web-based project management application.

How we use it: Sometimes we wish we could just add more memory to our brains, just as you would a device. As no one has invented that solution (yet!), we utilize Trello to keep track of the details, allowing us to focus our brain power on being strategic and creative for our clients. Trello helps us seamlessly keep track of every project at every stage.

What it is: A smart note-taking app that empowers you to remember, search, and share your voice conversations.

How we use it: We love that we can turn audio into searchable notes. Getting the info we need from a client is always more natural when done through conversation. Otter allows us to review our notes, skim and search for info we need, and send meeting notes to the team.

What it is: A super simple text editor.

How we use it: Notepad is a ‘less is more’ program. Basic text, with no formatting – it’s perfect for a quick note or for copy/pasting from tons of different sources. Now you don’t need to worry if the quotes sent by three different clients are in slightly different fonts.

What it is: Browse in private. With Incognito mode, Chrome doesn’t record your history.

How we use it: We use Incognito for good! As we manage various tasks for multiple clients, occasionally we need to log into more than one social media account or our own separate email accounts without logging out. Incognito is a simple way to do that and view in split screen.

What it is: Effortlessly compare multiple time zones at a glance.

How we use it: We schedule events, calls and meetings for clients who are either based, or who travel, all over the world. We’re pretty quick with time zones, but throw in Daylight Savings twice a year – which is different in every country – and even the sharpest among us can get confused. That’s why WorldTimeBuddy is a lifesaver to ensure we keep everyone ticking at the right time.

What it is: A highly encrypted real-time messaging app preferred by blockchain, ICO and cryptocurrency companies

How we use it: To keep up with the group channels where our blockchain, ICO and cryptocurrency clients have ongoing, real-time discussions with their communities and investors.

What about you? What are some of your favorite apps that make your work life easier? Share with us on Twitter and Facebook and they might just become favorites of ours too!
